On the 30 th of October we got a guest lecture by Martin Stroetinga about 3D printing with metals. In this lecture he taught us how 3D printing with metals works and when to apply it. Because metal 3D printing is very expensive and it changes the properties of the material, it’s not always better to use 3D printing. But for saving weight you get forms that are hard to make, then 3D printing comes in handy.
We got information about how a metal printer works. A laser makes the metal print from powder, and when the product is done, you have to get it out like an archaeologist. During removing the finished product you have to wear protective clothing, because the particles are you small they can enter your body through the pores. And when you inhale them, you can’t get them out of your lungs.
We found this lecture very interesting and it gave us more possibilities in our grand global challenge.

It was a very interesting lecture and we learned a lot from it.
