On Monday 23th of October a visit to the Dutch Design Week was planned. We went to the klokgebouw in Eindhoven. We were able to just walk around and look at all the ideas that were there and we got a Trend-tour from Fontys Academy for Creative Industries. During this tour we went to see trends that fitted to the themes of Disaster Independency, Digital Empathy and Nature’s Apprentice.
Disaster Independency is about how to prepare for disaster and life after the disaster like the Backpack Radio Station for communication, which is fire and water resistant. Self-sufficient sanitation hubs, that runs on solar power and cleans water.
Digital Empathy is about forms of technology that can be empathic. Like Hyperface is a glasses that can read your emotions. Dynamic Balance, a watch for people with autism to guide them with their emotions and stress levels. Kozie, a cushion that gives recognition to people who suffer from dementia by playing familiar music or voices of family.
Nature’s Apprentice, is to study nature’s benefits and use it in your product, like Plyskin is based on the fur of a polar bear for insulation properties. Biomimetic Lifting Aid uses the form of the suction cup of a squid to lift things. Or to make more lightweight products by using less materials on the inside like a bone.
After the tour we could walk around for ourselves. There were more interesting things, like virtual reality, augmented reality, robotics, autonomous cars and much more.
We all thought it was a very interesting day and got a lot of inspiration for the Global Grand Challenge.
